Trump Bars Federal Use of Anthropic Technology Over National Security Concerns
The Trump administration has ordered all U.S. federal agencies to immediately stop using artificial intelligence technology developed by Anthropic, escalating a public dispute over military access to the company’s systems.

The decision follows Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s refusal to grant the Pentagon unrestricted use of its AI tools. The company had requested assurances that its chatbot, Claude, would not be deployed for mass surveillance of Americans or integrated into fully autonomous weapons.
President Donald Trump said the government would no longer do business with the company, while Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic a “supply chain risk,” a move that could disrupt its partnerships with federal contractors.
Anthropic said it plans to challenge the action in court, describing it as unprecedented and legally unsound.
The standoff underscores growing tensions between Washington and leading AI firms over national security, ethics, and the military use of advanced technology.
