Warri Port Key to South-South Economic Growth, Investors Assured
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime and business sectors have described the Warri Port in Delta State as a strategic economic gateway capable of driving trade, investment, and industrial growth across the South-South region and beyond. The renewed call comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to revitalise and reposition eastern ports for greater economic impact.
Industry experts noted that Warri Port occupies a crucial geographical position that enables it to serve as a major hub for import and export activities within the South-South and parts of the South-East. They argued that increased utilisation of the port would reduce pressure on the congested Lagos ports while opening new opportunities for businesses and investors.
Speaking on the importance of the facility, stakeholders stressed that the revitalisation of Warri Port would stimulate economic inclusion, create jobs, boost logistics services, and attract investments into shipping, warehousing, manufacturing, and related industries. They added that improved port operations could significantly enhance regional competitiveness and strengthen Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions.
The Nigerian Ports Authority has in recent years intensified efforts to improve infrastructure and increase vessel traffic to eastern ports, including Warri. According to maritime industry reports, the agency is implementing measures aimed at making the ports more attractive to shipping companies and investors while supporting the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda.
Business groups in the South-South have also called for the full operationalisation of Delta ports, arguing that efficient port services would generate substantial revenue for governments, encourage industrialisation, and create employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
Observers believe that with sustained investment in infrastructure, dredging, security, and logistics connectivity, Warri Port could become one of Nigeria’s most important maritime gateways, serving as a catalyst for economic growth across the South-South region and contributing significantly to national development.
