Wike to Lead Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Campaign in FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to inaugurate and personally lead the campaign team for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike made the declaration on Friday, September 25, 2026, while speaking with journalists during an inspection of the ongoing Phase II dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road.

The minister said political groups supporting Tinubu were already preparing for the campaign, adding that both the All Progressives Congress and the President were also ready for the process to begin.

“For us who are supporting Mr. President, we have put all our machinery ready to fully kick start. Very soon, I will launch the campaign team for Mr. President in FCT, and I will lead the campaign for Mr. President in FCT,” Wike said.

He added that he would subsequently return to Rivers State to continue campaigning for the President.

Wike has previously described securing Tinubu’s re-election as a major political priority and said his support for the President is being channelled through a multi-party coalition rather than being limited to the APC.

Speaking about the political impact of infrastructure projects in the FCT, Wike linked the administration’s delivery of roads and other projects to its electoral prospects.

“This is governance; this is what people are expecting, and this is what will translate to actual votes,” he said.

The minister also referred to the reception he received from residents during the road inspection, saying the response demonstrated the importance of delivering projects that directly affect communities.

Wike said the ongoing Kuje-Gwagwalada road project was progressing well and assured the contractor, Gilmor Engineering, that funding would be made available to support completion by December.

The Kuje-Gwagwalada corridor has been a major focus of the FCT administration’s infrastructure programme. In June, President Tinubu’s administration commissioned the first phase of the dual carriageway, describing the project as an important link for Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and surrounding communities.

During Friday’s inspection, Wike also thanked President Tinubu for what he described as sustained support for the FCT administration.

The minister’s latest declaration comes as political activity begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with different political groups positioning themselves ahead of the election season.

Wike’s planned campaign role places the FCT minister among the prominent political figures publicly mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. His announcement, however, represents his stated political position and does not determine the eventual outcome of the 2027 election.
