16-Year-Old Osasere Okundaye Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Chartered Accountant
A 16-year-old Nigerian, Osasere Okundaye, has made history by becoming the youngest person in the country to qualify as a chartered accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The milestone was celebrated by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who described the achievement as a testament to the power of hard work, discipline and resilience.
In a statement issued on Monday, the minister hailed Okundaye as “a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” urging young Nigerians to remain focused on their goals and believe in their ability to achieve greatness.
Olawande also acknowledged the role played by her parents, teachers and mentors, saying their guidance, support and sacrifices were instrumental to her success.
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to creating opportunities that enable young Nigerians to discover and maximise their talents.
Okundaye’s accomplishment surpasses the previous national record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.
The ICAN chartered accountancy qualification is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most rigorous professional certifications, often requiring several years of intensive study and examination before candidates qualify.
Okundaye’s success at the age of 16 has therefore drawn widespread attention, with many describing it as an extraordinary feat and an inspiration to young Nigerians aspiring to excel in their chosen careers.
