Tragedy has struck the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State following the untimely death of Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai, who represented Ward C1. Rufai, the only female member of the council, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, just two weeks after being sworn into office.

Ibeju-Lekki LG Chairman, Sesan Olowa, and Lekki Local Council Development Area Chairman, Rasaki Kasali, confirmed the news, expressing shock and sadness over her passing. “Her death is a profound shock to the council and the community she served,” they said in separate statements.

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also mourned Rufai’s death, describing her as a “rising star within the APC” who was committed to grassroots service and gender inclusion. APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said, “Her legacy of service, courage, and vision will not be forgotten.” He extended condolences to Rufai’s family, the Ibeju-Lekki community, and her constituents.
