A heartbreaking situation is unfolding in Edo State as two seminarians from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary have been held captive by kidnappers for over 35 days. The Catholic Diocese of Auchi confirmed the abduction, which occurred on July 10, 2025, and has since issued a plea for help.

A disturbing video surfaced online, showing the seminarians surrounded by armed men, holding human skulls, and begging for their release. The Diocese has verified that the children in the video are indeed the abducted seminarians.

The Director of Communications in the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, is urging the authorities to take immediate action. “We are appealing to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Monday Okpebholo, and all security agencies to intervene and rescue these innocent children from the clutches of their kidnappers,” he said.

The Diocese’s appeal highlights the urgent need for the authorities to prioritize the safety and security of citizens, particularly vulnerable individuals like seminarians. As the situation continues to unfold, the Diocese remains hopeful that the authorities will take swift action to secure the safe release of the abducted seminarians.
