The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commenced a four-day training program for staff of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) at Idu Station, Abuja, as part of preparations for resuming operations. The training, which started on Monday, September 22, 2025, includes three days of real-life onboard operations training covering various operational scenarios.

Mr. Paschal Nnorli, Liaison Officer representing the Director of Human Resources, appreciated management’s initiative, stating, “The training is designed to refresh staff capacity and strengthen efficient train operations. Learning is continuous, urging staff to be attentive, uphold discipline, and work as a team.”

Key sessions focused on safety, with Mr. Adediran Adedamola, Deputy Director Health and Safety, teaching staff to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and apply controls. “Responsibility for safe practices rests with every staff member,” he emphasized. Engr. Adesegud M. Ogunade underscored adherence to handbooks, integrity, and professionalism for smooth operations.

Dr. Zang James, Director of Corporate Planning, representing Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reiterated the importance of safe work practices. “Safe work practices are crucial, and staff must take their jobs seriously,” he urged, announcing department-by-department sessions to deepen learning.

The training concluded with Engr. Monday Adejo commending management for commitment to staff development. “Lessons learned will translate into safer, hitch-free train operations,” he assured.

The initiative follows Dr. Opeifa’s promise to ensure staff are adequately prepared before service resumption, alongside a confirmed 95% salary increment for staff, set to take effect before year-end.
