Gov Diri Mobilises Bayelsans Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit, Highlights Key Projects
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has called on residents to turn out in large numbers for the scheduled visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 10, 2026.

Speaking during an Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his hometown of Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Governor Diri described the presidential visit as a significant opportunity for Bayelsans to showcase their famed hospitality and unity.

He emphasized that the projects to be inaugurated during the one-day visit are central to the state’s transformation and economic development.
“I call on all Bayelsans to come out en masse to welcome Mr. President and accord him the hospitality that we are known for. It is part of our culture as Ijaw people to warmly receive our guests,” he said.

Governor Diri prayed for sustained unity across the state, noting that peaceful coexistence remains a defining trait of the Ijaw people.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to development, he highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects designed to place Bayelsa on the map for investment, tourism, and economic growth.

Among the projects to be inaugurated is the 60-megawatt gas turbine, which he described as “critical to improving electricity supply and driving our economic agenda.”
He also pointed to the historic 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge in Southern Ijaw, noting that it provides long-awaited road access to Yenagoa and represents a major milestone for the local community.
“These are legacy projects that will positively impact our people and open up Bayelsa for greater opportunities,” the governor added.
Reflecting on the Easter celebration, Governor Diri stressed the importance of Christ’s sacrifice and the need for love, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
The service was attended by prominent state officials, including the First Lady, Dr. Gloria Diri; Deputy Governor Peter Akpe; Head of Service Dr. Wisdom Sawyer; Acting Chief of Staff Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo; members of the State Assembly, commissioners, permanent secretaries, and other government functionaries.
