A fresh political twist has emerged in Kano State following the reported defection of Hon. Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, son of former Kano State governor and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

According to multiple political sources and local party insiders, Abdulaziz Ganduje has officially resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He was said to have obtained his ADC membership card at his ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The move is being interpreted by observers as part of a broader political realignment ahead of future elections, particularly in Kano, a state known for its strategic importance in Nigeria’s electoral landscape. While there has been no official public statement yet from Abdulaziz Ganduje detailing the reasons for his defection, sources suggest growing internal disagreements and shifting loyalties within party structures may have influenced the decision.

Political analysts say the development could have symbolic and practical implications, given his close ties to his father, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, a prominent figure within the APC. However, it remains unclear whether the defection signals a deeper fracture within the Ganduje political camp or is an independent move.

Efforts to get official reactions from both the APC and ADC leadership in Kano were ongoing at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, supporters of the ADC in the state have described the development as a sign of growing momentum for the party, while APC loyalists have downplayed its significance.
