Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy has etched his name deeper into golf history after winning a second consecutive Masters title, becoming only the fourth player ever to achieve the rare back-to-back feat.

McIlroy successfully defended his crown at the The Masters Tournament at Augusta National, finishing at 12-under par to secure a dramatic one-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler.

With the win, the 36-year-old joins an elite group of golfing icons: Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods, as the only players to win consecutive Masters titles.

The victory marks McIlroy’s sixth major championship, drawing him level with Faldo and further cementing his legacy as one of Europe’s greatest golfers.

McIlroy’s path to victory was far from straightforward. Despite building a commanding lead earlier in the tournament, he faced a tense final round, briefly falling behind before rallying with crucial birdies, particularly around Augusta’s famed “Amen Corner.”

He ultimately held his nerve down the stretch, closing with a one-under 71 to seal the win and become the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 2002 to retain the Masters title.

Speaking after the victory, McIlroy described the achievement as part of a larger journey rather than a final destination, emphasizing his desire to continue pushing for more success in the sport.

The emotional triumph was made even more special by the presence of his family, who celebrated with him at Augusta after missing his previous Masters win.

The win not only reinforces McIlroy’s dominance in the modern era but also raises the possibility of an unprecedented third consecutive Masters title, a feat never achieved in the tournament’s history.
