Iran Carries Out Death Sentences Over Alleged Spy Network Ties to Israel

Iran has executed two men accused of working with Israel’s intelligence agency in a move that has drawn criticism and scepticism from opposition groups.

According to Iran’s judiciary news outlet, the two individuals identified as Mohammad Masoum Shahi and Hamed Validi were convicted of cooperating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence service and allegedly planning attacks inside the country.

Authorities said the men were part of a spy network linked to Israel and had received training abroad, including in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. They were charged with serious offences such as “enmity against God” and collaboration with hostile groups. Iran’s Supreme Court upheld their death sentences before they were carried out.

However, Iranian opposition figures and rights advocates have rejected the government’s claims, questioning the transparency and fairness of the judicial process. Critics argue that such accusations are often difficult to verify independently, especially in cases involving national security and espionage.

The executions come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, with Tehran increasingly cracking down on alleged foreign intelligence networks. In recent months, Iranian authorities have announced multiple arrests and executions linked to alleged espionage activities.

Human rights organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over Iran’s use of the death penalty, particularly in politically sensitive cases, citing issues such as lack of due process and forced confessions.

The incident is likely to further intensify scrutiny of Iran’s internal security policies and its ongoing confrontation with Israel.
