2027: Mopamuro Leaders Endorse Babagbemi Adejola as Consensus Aspirant for Yagba Reps

After over eight hours of deliberations and consultations at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, leaders from Mopamuro Local Government Area have agreed to adopt a single aspirant for the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives seat representing Yagba Federal Constituency.

Pastor Babagbemi Adejola, popularly known as GB Irorun, emerged as the consensus aspirant of Mopamuro for the forthcoming House of Representatives election under the platform of the APC.

The meeting, described by participants as peaceful, productive, and family-oriented, was convened to address the long-standing demand for Mopamuro to produce a representative in the House of Representatives by harmonising five aspirants into one unified candidate.

A three-member committee chaired by Chief Salaudeen Ganiyu (Erukutu) supervised the consensus process. Other members included Chief Olatunde David Dare and Engr. Kayode Adegbayo, while Hon. Bisi Ojuola served as secretary.

Among stakeholders who attended the meeting as observers were Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), Chief Ayo Abereoran, Chief Makinde Oyebode, Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloke, and Dr. Ayodele John (Delex), among others.

In a major show of unity, the other aspirants — Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Segun Ipinyomi (Rtd), Hon. Seun Ibigbemi, and Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi — pledged their full support for Adejola and also agreed to jointly contribute funds for the purchase of his nomination form at the APC National Secretariat.

Speaking after the exercise, committee chairman Chief Ganiyu urged Adejola to be magnanimous in victory and carry all stakeholders along in order to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Chief Olatunde also advised him to see his emergence as a call to greater responsibility, while Engr. Adegbayo praised the peaceful conduct of the process, describing it as a victory for justice, fairness, and equity.

Responding, Adejola expressed deep humility and gratitude, thanking God and the people of Mopamuro for what he described as an overwhelming show of unity and trust.

“I receive this decision with deep humility and gratitude. I thank God and the good people of Mopamuro for this overwhelming show of unity and trust,” he said.

He also appreciated his fellow aspirants for their sacrifice and statesmanship, noting that their decision to step down was not for his personal ambition alone, but for the collective progress of Yagba Federal Constituency.

“I am profoundly grateful to my brothers and co-aspirants. Your sacrifice speaks volumes. This decision is not about me alone, but about our shared vision for a better Yagba. I will carry every one of you along as partners in this journey, and together we will build a united and stronger front,” he added.

Adejola further commended the leadership of Mopamuro lo’kan for their wisdom, courage, and commitment to a purpose that transcends individual interests.

He assured stakeholders that he would not take the confidence reposed in him for granted and pledged to justify the trust through inclusive leadership and dedicated service.

“This moment places a greater responsibility on me. I assure you all that I will strive to justify this rare honour. Together, we will build a stronger, inclusive, and prosperous Yagba. This is our shared journey, and by God’s grace, victory and progress shall be ours,” he said.

He also promised to strengthen unity within the APC by reconciling aggrieved members and working collaboratively for the success of the party.

Adejola is expected to pick up his nomination form on Monday ahead of the party’s primary election.
