The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded senatorial primaries in most parts of the country, producing a mix of incumbent lawmakers, serving governors, former governors, and other political heavyweights as candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The list, which emerged following a series of primary elections across the federation, highlights the party’s strategy of fielding established political figures in key senatorial districts as it seeks to maintain its dominance in the National Assembly.

Among the prominent candidates are Senate President Godswill Akpabio for Akwa Ibom North-West, former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu for Abia North, and former Kano State governor Ibrahim Shekarau for Kano Central.

In Borno State, incumbent senators Ali Ndume and Tahir Monguno secured tickets for their respective districts, while Kaka Shehu emerged for Borno Central.

The APC also handed tickets to several serving governors and former governors, including Hope Uzodimma for Imo West, Inuwa Yahaya for Gombe North, Dapo Abiodun for Ogun East, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara Central, and Mai Mala Buni for Yobe East.

Other notable names on the APC ticket include former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole, former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani, former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa, former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, and former Plateau State governor Simon Lalong.

In the South-West, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele retained the APC ticket for Ekiti Central, while Yemi Adaramodu emerged for Ekiti South. In Lagos, the party nominated Tokunbo Abiru, Idiat Adebule, and Wasiu Eshinlokun for the state’s three senatorial districts.

The list also includes former governors Ramalan Yero for Kaduna North and Gabriel Suswam for Benue North-East.

However, the party noted that some senatorial districts remain unresolved due to internal disputes, zoning arrangements, postponed primaries, and ongoing consultations among stakeholders.

Political analysts say the emergence of several high-profile candidates signals what could be a fiercely contested battle for control of the Senate in 2027, with both the ruling party and opposition groups expected to intensify political mobilization in the coming months.

The APC is expected to conclude outstanding primaries and resolve pending disputes before submitting its final list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the next general election cycle.
