Tinubu Appoints Major General Fadewa(Rtd) as Adviser on Homeland Security
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, improving intelligence-driven operations and enhancing collaboration among security agencies in tackling emerging threats across the country.
A circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, described Fadewa as a highly experienced security expert with more than three decades of military and intelligence service.
The Presidency noted that the retired Major General played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework during his time as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.
During his service at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Fadewa reportedly led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve coordination among security institutions including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.
The statement further highlighted his experience in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence management and international security diplomacy.
Following his retirement from active military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he contributed to research and policy discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reforms.
He is also credited with authoring a monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which focuses on strategies for improving collaboration between civil authorities and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s experience and expertise would support the administration’s efforts to improve homeland security, intelligence integration and proactive risk management across the country.
The President also urged the retired General to deploy his experience and professionalism toward advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening national security.
