The NASCAR community is mourning the death of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who has died at the age of 41 following a sudden and severe illness.

Busch’s family, alongside NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing, confirmed his passing on Thursday, just hours after announcing that the driver had been hospitalized and would miss scheduled race events at Charlotte Motor Speedway. No official cause of death was immediately released.

In a joint statement, NASCAR described Busch as “a once-in-a-generation talent” whose fierce competitiveness and emotional connection with fans helped shape modern stock-car racing. Tributes quickly poured in from drivers, teams, and fans across the motorsports world.

Known by fans as “Rowdy,” Busch built one of the most successful careers in NASCAR history. He won Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019 and recorded 63 Cup Series victories during a career spanning more than two decades. Across NASCAR’s top three national series, Busch amassed a record 234 wins.

Busch began his Cup Series career in 2004 and became one of the sport’s most recognizable and polarizing figures due to his aggressive driving style, outspoken personality, and relentless drive to win. He raced for teams including Joe Gibbs Racing before joining Richard Childress Racing in 2023.

Earlier Thursday, Busch’s family had announced that he was undergoing treatment for what they described as a “severe illness.” The sudden development shocked fans, especially after reports that Busch had recently been battling health issues during race weekends.

NASCAR officials said Busch’s impact extended beyond victories and championships, noting that his passion and sharp personality helped create one of the sport’s most loyal fanbases, known as “Rowdy Nation.”
