Aston Villa have been crowned UEFA Europa League champions after a dominant 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Wednesday night’s final in Istanbul, sealing the club’s first major trophy in three decades.

The Premier League side delivered a composed and clinical performance at Beşiktaş Park, with goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía, and Morgan Rogers securing the historic win for manager Unai Emery.

Tielemans opened the scoring with a stunning volley late in the first half before Buendía doubled Villa’s lead with a curling strike from outside the box just before halftime. Rogers added a third in the second half as Villa completely controlled the contest against the Bundesliga side.

The victory marks Aston Villa’s first major silverware since winning the English League Cup in 1996 and their first European trophy since lifting the European Cup in 1982.

For Emery, the triumph further strengthens his reputation as one of Europe’s most successful managers in the competition. The Spaniard has now won the Europa League five times more than any other coach in history.

Villa’s Europa League success also guarantees qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, adding another milestone to the club’s remarkable resurgence under Emery.

Fans celebrated wildly both in Istanbul and back in Birmingham as captain John McGinn lifted the trophy, ending a 30-year wait for major honours and writing a new chapter in Aston Villa’s European history.
