The President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, has been appointed as a member of the Commonwealth Games Committee by the Executive Board of World Archery, marking a major international recognition for Nigerian sports administration.

The appointment was confirmed in an official letter signed by the Secretary General of World Archery, Raul Calin, and addressed to Commonwealth Games officials. The letter stated that the appointments were approved by the World Archery Executive Board as part of efforts to strengthen the activities and operations of the Commonwealth Games Committee.

Abdullahi was named alongside four other members appointed to serve on the committee, including Karl Balisch of Canada, Trina Roberts of Bermuda, Ainsley Ward of Great Britain, and Virendra Sachdeva of India. The committee works towards archery’s inclusion in the Commonwealth Games programme, promotes the sport across Commonwealth nations, and facilitates the sharing of expertise and resources among member countries.

“We look forward to these individuals contributing to the activities on your committee,” Calin stated in the letter . World Archery also confirmed that Juan Carlos Holgado will continue to serve as the liaison staff to the committee.

Abdullahi’s appointment is being viewed as another major international recognition for Nigerian archery and a boost to the country’s growing influence in global sports administration. The Nigeria Archery Federation under Abdullahi has continued to push for greater development of the sport locally while also expanding Nigeria’s presence in international archery events and governance structures.

He will work alongside committee chairman Robert Fiddyment of Australia . The committee’s activities come at a crucial time as archery has not featured in the Commonwealth Games since the 2010 Delhi edition, and the sport is currently under consideration for inclusion as an optional discipline at the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
