President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election following a landslide victory in the party’s nationwide presidential primary.

The result was announced on Saturday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Pius Anyim.

According to the committee, Tinubu polled 10,999,162 votes to defeat his challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifu, who secured 16,503 votes in the exercise conducted across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards nationwide.

The committee disclosed that 12,643,306 party members were registered for the primary election, while 11,069,756 members were accredited to vote. A total of 11,015,665 votes were eventually cast.

Declaring the result, Anyim said Tinubu won with a margin of 10,982,659 votes, describing the exercise as one of the most expansive internal party elections conducted by the ruling party.

“By the powers conferred on me as the returning officer of this primary election, I hereby declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the APC presidential primary election and the duly elected presidential candidate of the party,” he announced.

The declaration triggered celebrations inside the venue as governors, ministers, federal lawmakers, party delegates and supporters erupted in jubilation, waving party flags and chanting solidarity songs.

Party leaders described the outcome as a reflection of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and an indication of unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Political observers say the victory is expected to boost the ruling party’s early campaign momentum as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the general elections.
