Former Delta Speaker Victor Ochei Dumps APC After 10-Year Membership
Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress after nearly a decade in the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ochei said his decision followed “deep reflections and wide consultations,” adding that he was leaving the APC to continue his political journey elsewhere.
The former lawmaker said he joined the APC in 2016 with “sincerity of purpose” and spent the last 10 years helping to build and strengthen the party across Delta State.
According to him, he worked alongside other party faithful to expand the APC’s grassroots structures, mobilise support across communities, and increase the party’s visibility within the state’s political landscape.
Ochei also noted that he remained committed to the ideals of leadership, service, grassroots development, and democratic participation long before many current party leaders joined the APC.
Reflecting on his time in the party, he said the APC made progress in youth and women inclusion, political engagement, and bridge-building across political divides.
However, he stressed that leadership and political institutions must continue to evolve in line with fairness, inclusion, mutual respect, and the aspirations of the people.
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” he stated.
The former Speaker insisted that his resignation was not driven by bitterness or hostility but by his desire to continue serving the people and pursuing his political vision.
He thanked supporters, stakeholders, and party members who stood by him throughout his time in the APC and urged his followers to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals.
Ochei’s exit adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
