Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their UEFA Champions League title on Saturday night after defeating Arsenal 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after extra time in Budapest.

The final at the Puskás Aréna delivered high drama as Arsenal took an early lead through Kai Havertz, who fired the Premier League champions ahead in the sixth minute. The Gunners then produced a disciplined defensive display to frustrate the French side for much of the contest.

PSG eventually found a way back into the game in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted a penalty after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought down inside the box. The equaliser shifted momentum toward the defending champions, who dominated possession and continued to push for a winner.

Despite several chances at both ends, neither side could break the deadlock during normal time or the additional 30 minutes of extra time, sending the Champions League final to penalties for the first time in several years.

In the shootout, PSG held their nerve. Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze missed his attempt before Gabriel Magalhães blazed his penalty over the crossbar. Lucas Beraldo then converted the decisive spot kick to spark wild celebrations among the Parisian players and supporters.

The victory sees PSG become the first club since Real Madrid in 2018 to successfully defend the Champions League title, further cementing their place among Europe’s elite. For Arsenal, the defeat extends their wait for a first-ever Champions League trophy despite a spirited performance on the biggest stage in club football.

The final showcased contrasting styles, with Arsenal relying on defensive organisation and quick transitions while PSG controlled possession and dictated large periods of the match. Ultimately, the French champions’ composure from the penalty spot proved decisive as they lifted the famous trophy for the second consecutive season.
