The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a serious train accident along the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, with the incident occurring near Agbor in Delta State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the corporation disclosed that emergency and rescue operations were immediately activated following the accident, as response teams worked to assist affected passengers and assess the situation.

The NRC said relevant authorities are currently at the scene, coordinating rescue efforts and gathering information to determine the full extent of the incident, including possible casualties, injuries, and damage to railway infrastructure.

While details remain limited, the corporation assured the public that updates would be provided as more information becomes available from ongoing investigations and rescue operations.

The Warri–Itakpe rail line is one of Nigeria’s major standard-gauge railway corridors, linking parts of the South-South and North-Central regions and serving both passengers and freight services.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident and reiterated the corporation’s commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers while emergency teams continue their work.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and await official updates as efforts continue at the accident site.
