Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar Dies in Bandits’ Captivity, Katsina Government Confirms

The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held captive by bandits.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the government described the incident as a tragic loss to Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.

According to the statement, the retired military officer died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity. The government noted that extensive efforts had been made by security agencies and state authorities to secure his release, but those efforts ultimately ended in tragedy.

The statement expressed deep sorrow over the development, describing the late general’s death as a painful reminder of the persistent security challenges facing communities across the country.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, describing the incident as a dark moment for the state and the nation. He emphasized the need for greater collaboration in tackling banditry and other forms of criminality threatening lives and livelihoods.

“The loss of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar is not only a personal tragedy for his family but a significant loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” the governor said.

The state government reiterated its commitment to working closely with federal authorities and security agencies to combat banditry and ensure that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.

Authorities also assured residents that ongoing efforts to restore security across Katsina State would continue unabated despite the latest setback.

The late Major General Rabe Abubakar was remembered for his service to the nation and his contributions to the Nigerian military.
