Terrorists Abduct Passengers in 18-Seater Bus Attack Along Kabba–Okene Highway
Armed men suspected to be terrorists have reportedly attacked an 18-seater passenger bus along the Kabba–Okene Highway in Kogi State, abducting all occupants in a fresh incident that has raised renewed concerns over insecurity on major travel routes in the region.
According to preliminary reports from local sources, the incident occurred while the vehicle was travelling along the busy highway when it was intercepted by armed attackers. The gunmen were said to have forced the bus to a halt before whisking away all passengers to an unknown location.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers operated for several minutes without immediate resistance before disappearing into nearby forested areas with the victims. The exact number of passengers aboard the bus at the time of the attack has not yet been officially confirmed.
Security agencies have reportedly launched a search-and-rescue operation in an effort to track the abductors and locate the missing passengers. Patrol teams have also been deployed to strategic points along the highway to prevent further incidents.
The Kabba–Okene axis has witnessed repeated cases of kidnapping and armed attacks in recent years, prompting calls for stronger security presence along the route, which connects several key towns in Kogi State and serves as a major transit corridor between northern and southern Nigeria.
Authorities have urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant while assuring that efforts are ongoing to restore safety and apprehend those responsible for the latest attack.
As of the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, and the fate of the passengers remains unknown.
Further updates are expected as security operations continue in the affected area.
