The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun uploading results from Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election to its Election Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing voters and stakeholders with real-time access to polling unit outcomes as collation progresses across the state.

Data available on the portal as of 6:00 p.m. showed that 846 polling unit results had been uploaded out of the expected 2,445, representing 34.6 per cent of the total results expected from across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The development followed the conclusion of voting, sorting and counting of ballots in many polling units, with electoral officials moving to the next phase of the electoral process.

A breakdown of the uploaded results indicated that several wards in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area were among the first to appear on the portal.

Iyin I Ward recorded the highest number of uploaded results, with nine out of 23 polling unit results already available for public viewing. Igbemo Ward also posted nine of its 21 polling unit results.

Other wards where results had been uploaded included Are Ward 02 with four of 10 polling unit results, Igede II with four of 15, Igede III with one of 11, Afao with three of eight, Igede I with five of 15, Iworoko with three of 22, Iropora/Esure/Eyio with one of 16, Awo with three of 12, and Iyin II with six of 21 polling unit results.

INEC is expected to continue uploading additional polling unit results as collation advances across the state.

Voting ended in many polling units before 3:00 p.m., after which electoral officials commenced sorting and counting of ballots in the presence of party agents, observers and voters.

Residents across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas turned out to participate in the election, which is being closely monitored by political parties, civil society groups and election observers.

The ongoing upload of results to the IReV portal is expected to enhance transparency in the electoral process by allowing the public to independently verify polling unit results as they are collated.

Meanwhile, collation of results is underway in several local government areas, with expectations that more results will be uploaded to the portal in the coming hours.
