Northeast Leaders Endorse Tinubu-Shettima for 2027, President Urges Governors to Intensify Anti-Terror Fight

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a major political boost ahead of the 2027 general election as leaders from Nigeria’s Northeast formally endorsed the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket for a second term.

The endorsement came during what the delegation described as a “thank-you” visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The delegation was led by Borno State Governor and Chairman of the Northeast Governors’ Forum, Professor Babagana Zulum, and included governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers and other prominent political leaders from the region.

Speaking during the meeting, the Northeast leaders pledged their continued support for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, citing the administration’s efforts in addressing security challenges, infrastructure development and economic reforms.

Responding, President Tinubu thanked the delegation for its show of confidence and urged the six Northeast governors to sustain efforts to eliminate terrorism, banditry and other forms of insecurity across the region.

The President stressed that while the Federal Government would continue to support security operations, state governments also have a critical role to play in strengthening local initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability.

Tinubu also defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying the difficult but necessary policy decisions taken since assuming office had helped stabilise the Nigerian economy and laid the foundation for sustainable growth.

He expressed optimism that the benefits of the reforms would become more evident as implementation progresses, assuring Nigerians that his administration remains committed to improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities.

The endorsement by the Northeast leaders comes barely a day after governors from the Southeast declared support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, further boosting the President’s political standing ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Among those present at the meeting were Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ibrahim Kingibe and other key political stakeholders from the Northeast.
