Tears, Cheers as Rescued Oriire Pupils, Teachers Reunite with Families in Oyo
There were emotional scenes across Oyo State on Friday as pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area reunited with their families following their rescue by security operatives after weeks in captivity.
The return of the victims sparked celebrations, with relatives, friends and well-wishers expressing relief that the prolonged ordeal had finally come to an end.
Many parents broke down in tears as they embraced their children, while others sang songs of thanksgiving, overwhelmed with emotion after weeks of uncertainty over the fate of their loved ones.
The victims had been abducted by armed men and held captive for more than 50 days before a coordinated military, police and intelligence-led operation secured their release.
The rescue has drawn widespread commendation, with President Bola Tinubu and the Oyo State Government praising the efforts of security agencies and reaffirming their commitment to combating kidnapping and protecting schools from criminal attacks.
The reunion marked the end of an anxious wait for affected families and communities, who had endured weeks of fear while hoping for the safe return of the pupils and their teachers.
