Tinubu Declares Nigeria Entering ‘Golden Era’ as Northeast Leaders Endorse 2027 Re-election Bid

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is entering a “golden era” following what he described as the stabilisation of the economy through his administration’s economic reforms, while receiving a strong endorsement from political and traditional leaders from the Northeast for his 2027 re-election bid.

The endorsement came on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa by a high-powered delegation led by Borno State Governor and Chairman of the Northeast Governors’ Forum, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.

The delegation included Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Adamawa State Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, the Shehu of Borno, Umar Garbai Al-Kanemi, the Aku Uka of Wukari, Manu Ishaku Matakhitswen, the Emir of Fika, Alhaji Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, former Vice President-elect Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, federal lawmakers, ministers and former service chiefs from the region.

Addressing the delegation, President Tinubu said his administration’s economic reforms had begun yielding positive results, attributing the progress to the cooperation of state governments.

“The economy is already stabilised,” the President said, commending governors for supporting key reform policies.

“The golden era is here now. Nigerians are not asking for too much simple stability and social welfare.”

He urged governors in the Northeast to intensify efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry, stressing that sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and the states remains critical to restoring peace and accelerating development in the region.

The President also said his administration was addressing outstanding pension obligations inherited from previous governments, assuring Nigerians that his government would continue working to strengthen democratic governance, national unity and economic prosperity.

“I promise you, through the twists and turns of this democracy, Nigeria will survive. We will continue to build our unity in diversity and ensure democratic stability and prosperity,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Governor Zulum said the visit was to thank the President for re-nominating Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

He pledged the region’s support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, saying Northeast leaders would mobilise grassroots support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We will continue to support the programmes and policies of your government. Come 2027, the Northeast will massively deliver your ticket and all APC candidates at every level,” Zulum said.

The Borno governor also commended the Federal Government for ongoing infrastructure projects in the region, particularly the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Expressway, describing it as a strategic investment that would improve security and economic activities across the Northeast.

Former Vice President-elect Ambassador Babagana Kingibe also expressed support for the President, praising his leadership and economic reform agenda.

Kingibe said elders and leaders in the region would continue engaging their communities on the objectives of government policies while working to sustain support for the administration.

The visit comes less than 24 hours after political leaders from the Southeast also declared support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, further strengthening his political backing ahead of the 2027 general election.
