The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened online access to the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 general elections following concerns over public access to the document.

The Commission said the register is available on its dedicated portal, https://display.inecnigeria.org, alongside the physical verification exercise conducted across the country earlier this month.

The development was announced in a statement by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to INEC, the physical display of the preliminary register took place at Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, in compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The exercise enabled registered voters to inspect their details and submit claims and objections where errors or other discrepancies were identified.

INEC explained that the decision to make the register available online followed concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the need for broader access to the document.

The Commission said the online publication would complement the physical exercise, improve accessibility and strengthen transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

It added that claims and objections arising from the verification exercise were still being processed ahead of the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters.

INEC fixed December 15, 2026, for the publication of the final register as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.

The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and compliance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
