An embattled member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafi’u Bala Gombe, has expressed deep regret over his involvement in the party’s internal crisis, alleging that he was misled and later abandoned by key political figures.

The claims were disclosed in Abuja on Friday by his associate, Nafiu Umaru, who said the politician is now grappling with personal and security challenges stemming from the fallout of the crisis.

According to Umaru, Nafi’u lamented that his life and that of his family have been under threat since the crisis erupted, forcing him to avoid public gatherings, including congregational prayers at the mosque, for fear of attack.

He further alleged that promises made to him in exchange for his role in destabilising the party were never fulfilled, leaving him disillusioned and isolated.

Nafi’u reportedly accused Leke Abejide of betrayal, claiming the lawmaker abandoned him after exiting the ADC, leaving him to face the consequences of the crisis alone.

He also blamed Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, for allegedly provoking him into actions that undermined the party. According to him, Lawal not only denied him a promised position within the party but also subjected him to insults.

“Up to this moment, I have not received any meaningful reward from Hon. Abejide, aside from minor financial support, despite the risks I took,” Umaru quoted him as saying.

He further claimed that assurances of compensation from the Presidency, allegedly conveyed through the Chief of Staff, never materialised, while legal representatives involved in the matter were the primary beneficiaries.

Nafi’u is also said to be considering withdrawing from the ongoing dispute, particularly following Abejide’s reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umaru disclosed that he has advised Nafi’u to step away from the matter and issue a public apology. He added that Nafi’u acknowledged resigning from the ADC and participating in activities that facilitated the emergence of figures such as David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola within the party structure.

Nafi’u is expected to make a public statement in the coming days to clarify his position and possibly distance himself from the controversy.
