APC Moves To Secure Tinubu’s Second Term As Shettima Submits 2027 Nomination Forms
The ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday formally kicked off President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid with the submission of his nomination and expression of interest forms at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-powered delegation of party leaders to submit the forms on behalf of the president, describing Tinubu as a courageous leader whose reforms have repositioned Nigeria’s economy.
According to Shettima, Tinubu has demonstrated the political will and leadership capacity needed to steer the country through economic difficulties and place it on the path of recovery.
“As he seeks to lead us for another four years through thick and thin, the President has proved his mettle and shown the world that his resolve to pull the nation out of the woods remains unwavering,” the vice president said.
He credited the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda with restoring investor confidence, strengthening foreign reserves, and stabilising key sectors of the economy.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Hope Uzodimma State, said governors elected on the APC platform had already endorsed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Uzodimma stated that 31 APC governors reached a consensus during an earlier political summit to support the president’s continuity agenda.
“We are united in supporting Mr President to continue the good work he is doing for Nigeria,” he said, adding that governors across the country would mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
APC National Chairman Abdullahi Nentawe Yilwatda disclosed that the party’s National Executive Committee unanimously endorsed Tinubu for re-election, making any screening process unnecessary.
He said the endorsement reflected the confidence of the party leadership in the president’s performance and reform policies.
Yilwatda pointed to major infrastructure projects including the Lagos-Kano-Maradi railway, the Badagry-Sokoto highway, and the AKK gas pipeline as evidence of the administration’s development drive.
He also praised reforms in the power sector which now permit states to independently generate and distribute electricity.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas described Tinubu’s performance in office as “phenomenal,” arguing that the president had shown boldness and decisiveness from the onset of his administration.
Abbas said Tinubu confronted longstanding national challenges head-on rather than postponing difficult economic decisions.
The submission of the nomination forms officially signals the commencement of Tinubu’s campaign for a second term, with the APC projecting party unity, continuity, and economic reforms as key pillars of its 2027 strategy.
