Bandits Kill 11, Injure Two in Fresh Katsina Village Attack
At least 11 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Katsina State Police Command disclosed that the attack occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday when the armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire on unsuspecting residents, killing several victims on the spot.
Police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday in Katsina, adding that two other residents sustained injuries during the assault.
According to him, the attackers fled the area as security operatives advanced toward the scene.
“The assailants fled as security forces closed in on the scene,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
He explained that a joint security team comprising police personnel, the military, and other security agencies responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, forcing the bandits to retreat before causing further destruction.
“The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, while the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites,” he added.
Following the attack, the police command said it had reinforced security in the affected area by deploying additional tactical teams to prevent another incident.
Sadiq-Aliyu noted that intensified patrols had also been ordered, alongside stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities to improve intelligence gathering and response time.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators of the heinous act,” he said, while urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements within their communities.
The latest attack adds to the growing insecurity confronting parts of Katsina State, where repeated bandit attacks have continued to threaten lives, livelihoods, and peace in rural communities.
