Authorities have identified Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from Torrance, California, as the suspect behind the shooting incident that disrupted the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

According to law enforcement officials, Allen allegedly attempted to breach security at the high-profile event while armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives.

Witnesses say the suspect ran through a security checkpoint near the ballroom where political leaders, journalists, and dignitaries had gathered. During the chaos, at least one Secret Service officer was struck by gunfire, but was protected by a bulletproof vest and is expected to recover.

Authorities quickly subdued and arrested Allen at the scene. He was later transported to a hospital and is currently in custody.

Officials have described him as a “lone wolf” attacker, and investigations are ongoing to determine his motive.

Preliminary reports suggest Allen may have been staying at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the event was held, raising concerns about possible security gaps.

He is expected to face multiple charges, including:

  • Use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
  • Assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

Additional reports indicate Allen may have a technical or academic background, described in some outlets as a developer and tutor, though authorities have not officially confirmed detailed personal history.

The incident triggered panic among attendees, with many taking cover as Secret Service agents evacuated top officials, including President Donald Trump, who was unharmed. The event has since been postponed.

Investigators continue to examine how the suspect was able to assemble weapons and approach the secured area.
