Entertainment World Pays Tribute to Anthony Head Following His Death

Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment industry following the death of veteran British actor Anthony Head, best known for his roles in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso. Head died at the age of 72 from complications related to pneumonia, according to a statement released by his daughters, actresses Emily Head and Daisy Head.

In a heartfelt statement, his daughters said their father passed away peacefully while surrounded by family. They described him as an extraordinary man whose work touched millions of people around the world and said his legacy would continue through the many productions in which he appeared.

Head was widely recognized for portraying Rupert Giles, the wise mentor and librarian in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a role that earned him international fame and made him a beloved figure among television audiences. More recently, he gained a new generation of fans through his portrayal of Rupert Mannion, the manipulative former football club owner in Ted Lasso.

Following news of his death, former co-stars and colleagues shared emotional tributes. Actress Alyson Hannigan, who starred alongside Head in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, said she was devastated by the loss, describing him as a cherished friend and mentor. In an emotional message, she wrote that the loss was a wound “so deep” it may never fully heal.

Members of the Ted Lasso cast also paid tribute. Actor Brett Goldstein remembered Head as a brilliant performer and an exceptionally kind person, while other cast members praised his warmth, humor, and professionalism on set. Many noted that despite often playing stern or villainous characters on screen, he was known for his generosity and kindness behind the scenes.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Head appeared in numerous television series, films, stage productions, and radio dramas. Beyond Buffy and Ted Lasso, he was known for his roles in Merlin, Little Britain, The Iron Lady, and Motherland. Anthony Head is survived by his daughters, Emily and Daisy. His death comes just months after the passing of his longtime partner, animal welfare campaigner Sarah Fisher.
