Three security operatives have been killed following an attack by suspected gunmen on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Monday night when the assailants attempted to gain access to the premises of the institute, widely regarded as Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training centre.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that security personnel on duty engaged the attackers in a gun battle, resulting in the death of three operatives.

The identities of the deceased security personnel had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report.

Authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the attack, while security agencies have not issued an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The development has heightened concerns over the security of strategic national institutions, particularly amid persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State and other regions of the country.

Residents and stakeholders have called for increased security deployment around critical government facilities to forestall similar attacks.

Meanwhile, security agencies are expected to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
