Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed speculation that he purchased the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form in anticipation of becoming a running mate, insisting that his intention is to contest for the presidency.

Amaechi made the clarification while addressing supporters and party members amid growing political discussions about potential alliances and internal arrangements within the ADC ahead of the next general election cycle.

According to him, the decision to obtain the nomination form was driven solely by his presidential ambition, stressing that he did not enter the race to negotiate for a vice-presidential position or act as a placeholder for another candidate.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that he remains committed to offering leadership at the highest level, adding that any suggestion of him stepping down for a deputy role was “misleading” and not reflective of his political intentions.

His comments come amid ongoing realignments within opposition parties, where several political figures are positioning themselves ahead of expected primaries and coalition talks.

Amaechi’s clarification is expected to further intensify conversations around his role in the ADC and the broader opposition landscape as political activities begin to gather momentum.
