A traditional ruler in Kaduna State, the District Head of Maganda in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Alhaji Hussaini Sulaiman, has been shot dead following a violent confrontation at an illegal gold mining site in the community.

Security sources said the incident occurred on Thursday and prompted a swift response from troops of Operation Fasan Yamma after reports of the killing reached security authorities.

According to preliminary findings, the district head was allegedly shot by a suspected bandit identified as Shuaibu during a dispute at the illegal mining location in Maganda.

Sources disclosed that an altercation broke out between the deceased and the suspect before the situation escalated into violence.

The traditional ruler reportedly sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

His remains were later evacuated to Birnin Gwari, where he was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Security agencies have launched an investigation into the killing and intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.

The incident has renewed concerns over the growing activities of illegal mining operators and armed criminal groups in Birnin Gwari, a local government area that has long struggled with banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.

Residents say the proliferation of illegal mining sites in parts of the area has increasingly become a source of tension, attracting criminal elements and fueling insecurity.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the killing, but security operatives say efforts are underway to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
