The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party alleged that the PFIPC, which the Presidency has described as a non-existent agency, was used to facilitate fraudulent activities, including the alleged diversion of public funds and the sale of government appointments.

The NDC said the allegations surrounding the agency raise serious concerns about transparency, accountability and governance under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the party, claims by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identifies himself as Director-General of the PFIPC, suggest that the agency received a budgetary allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act and operated multiple accounts, including a Treasury Single Account (TSA), a domiciliary account and a pound sterling account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The NDC questioned how an agency the Presidency has disowned could allegedly secure official financial accounts and obtain budgetary allocations, arguing that such processes would ordinarily require extensive documentation and approvals.

It also raised concerns over claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation allegedly approved 314 staff positions for the agency, despite official assertions that it had no legal existence.

The party further referenced allegations by Adeyemi that he paid ₦400 million through intermediaries as part of a ₦600 million arrangement to secure his appointment, with an outstanding balance of ₦200 million. It also cited his claim that the Chief of Staff allegedly demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed ₦27.4 billion take-off grant.

The NDC said the allegations point to what it described as a pattern of institutional corruption and called for a transparent investigation.

The party also expressed concern over the death of Babatunde Tanimola, identified by Adeyemi as an intermediary in the alleged dealings, as well as claims of assassination attempts against Adeyemi.

Among its demands, the NDC called for:

The immediate removal of Gbajabiamila to allow for an impartial investigation.

The constitution of an independent investigative panel to examine the operations of the PFIPC, its budgetary allocations, financial accounts and recruitment process.

A thorough investigation into the death of Babatunde Tanimola and the alleged attempts on Adeyemi’s life.

Forensic examination of official documents signed by the Chief of Staff since assuming office.

Investigation of officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service over their alleged roles.

Immediate investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force.

The NDC insisted that Nigerians deserve a transparent investigation rather than what it described as official denials, adding that anyone found culpable should be prosecuted regardless of status.

The allegations remain claims by the NDC and Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi. The Presidency has consistently denied wrongdoing, maintaining that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency and rejecting allegations linking the Chief of Staff to any fraudulent activities. No investigative agency has announced findings substantiating the claims.
