PDP BoT Affirms Leadership After Supreme Court Nullifies Ibadan Convention
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed the party’s current leadership structure following the Supreme Court judgment nullifying its November 2025 national convention.
In a statement issued on April 30, 2026, and signed by BoT Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, the board said it fully accepts the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered earlier in the day.
The BoT clarified that the apex court’s decision upheld earlier judgments of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which invalidated the PDP’s national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the statement, the implication of the ruling is that the convention and all structures that emerged from it have no legal standing.
“The legal position remains clear and unambiguous: the said Ibadan Convention stands nullified, and any structure emanating therefrom has no legal foundation,” the BoT stated.
It added that the party’s leadership under Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary remains the legitimate authority at the national level.
The BoT emphasized that the PDP remains fully operational and will continue to function through its constitutionally recognized organs, in line with the party’s 2017 amended constitution.
To address internal disputes, the board directed the National Working Committee to immediately set up a reconciliation committee to engage aggrieved members nationwide.
Describing the moment as critical for unity, the BoT urged party members to remain disciplined and committed to the party’s ideals, assuring that necessary constitutional steps would be taken to strengthen cohesion and prepare for future elections.
The PDP, the statement added, remains “strong, resilient, and committed” to providing credible leadership for Nigeria.
