PRESIDENT TINUBU PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR FINTECH COMPANIES AS FLUTTERWAVE SEEKS LISTING ON THE NIGERIAN EXCHANGE

President Bola Tinubu has pledged his administration’s support for businesses in the financial technology sector, particularly those providing payment infrastructure services for Nigerians and Africans. This commitment was made during a meeting with the leadership of Flutterwave and Alami Capital in Abuja on Saturday afternoon.

The Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, said President Tinubu commended Flutterwave’s commitment to building capacity in the digital economy sector, driven by young and energetic Nigerians. President Tinubu expressed his honor in leading a country with such a youthful and resourceful population. He emphasized that Flutterwave’s leadership in the digital world is crucial for Nigeria’s economic growth and improving the lives of its citizens.

Flutterwave, a leading fintech company founded by young Nigerians, operates in several countries, including the U.S., Canada, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, and 29 other African nations. The company’s CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, highlighted Flutterwave’s achievements, including making it easy for Nigerians to pay for global services with Naira and providing payment platforms for Nigerians in the diaspora.

Agboola also noted that Flutterwave, valued at over $3 billion, is a Nigerian export and brand employing over 1,000 Nigerians. He solicited President Tinubu’s support as the company seeks to be listed on the Nigerian Exchange. Onanuga stated that Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, acknowledged Flutterwave’s significant progress over the past decade, creating jobs and diversifying the economy through innovative digital platforms and payment services.

Dr. Armstrong Ume Takang, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), emphasized the need for Nigeria to demonstrate its economic prowess by strategically positioning products and services by Nigerian companies, such as Flutterwave, in the homes of all Africans. Takang suggested supporting Galaxy Backbone’s hosting services to enable it to handle companies like Flutterwave, which spends millions of dollars monthly on hosting services that go to other countries. Onanuga concluded the statement by reiterating President Tinubu’s commitment to removing obstacles and allowing companies like Flutterwave to thrive.
