Prince Harry and Meghan Cheered in Nottingham on First Joint UK Appearance Since Return
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have received a warm welcome from cheering crowds during their first joint public appearance in the United Kingdom since returning to live in the country with their children.
The couple visited Nottingham on Thursday, October 15, 2026, where they greeted supporters, posed for photographs, accepted flowers and interacted with schoolchildren during an engagement at the Community Recording Studio, a charity that supports young people through music, creative activities and mentoring.
Crowds gathered outside the facility in St Ann’s as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived. Well-wishers cheered, while some called out messages of support for Meghan. The couple shook hands, exchanged hugs and took selfies with members of the public.
Meghan told one well-wisher, “It’s great to be back,” according to reports by Reuters and People magazine.
The Nottingham visit carries particular significance for the couple. They made their first joint official public appearance in the city in December 2017, shortly after announcing their engagement. Their return comes nearly nine years after that milestone and follows their move back to Britain in August 2026 after living in California.
During Thursday’s visit, Harry reconnected with people associated with the Community Recording Studio, which has received support through charitable funding linked to him. Meghan took part in activities focused on confidence-building among young girls.
The couple’s schedule also included visits to Himmah Hub, a community organisation working to tackle food poverty, and Epic Partners, which supports children, young people and families through sports, education and mentoring programmes.
Meghan has previously supported community initiatives linked to food insecurity, including the Hubb Community Kitchen project, which brought together women affected by the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London.
The appearance marks a notable return to public engagements in Britain for Meghan, who had not attended a public event in the country since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Harry, meanwhile, has continued to visit Britain for charity-related engagements since the couple stepped back from royal duties.
However, Thursday’s programme was not an official royal engagement. Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the royal family following their decision in 2020 to relinquish their royal duties and establish a life in the United States.
Their return to Britain has also drawn attention to ongoing questions about security arrangements and their relationship with the royal household. Harry has previously challenged the withdrawal of publicly funded police protection for his family, arguing that security concerns affect their ability to visit and live in Britain.
Despite those issues, the Nottingham visit focused on the couple’s charitable work and connections with local communities. Their reception offered a public display of support as they resumed joint engagements on British soil.
The visit is part of a wider effort by the couple to maintain their charitable commitments while balancing family life and professional projects outside the working monarchy.
