Project Nigeria Positively, Dabiri-Erewa Urges Diaspora as She Honours Outstanding Nigerians in UK and Europe
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting a positive image of the country by celebrating its achievements and serving as worthy ambassadors wherever they reside.

Dabiri-Erewa made the call during a visit to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom—Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Oguro, the recently sworn-in Mayor of Islington Council.
She described Adegoke’s emergence as chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Council as a historic milestone, noting that he is the first person from an ethnic minority background to hold the office since the council’s establishment in 1889.

According to the NiDCOM boss, the achievements of both public officials reflect the resilience, excellence and leadership qualities that Nigerians in the diaspora continue to demonstrate across the world.
While receiving Dabiri-Erewa in her office, Mayor Oguro expressed appreciation for the visit and encouraged Nigerians abroad to continue promoting the country’s positive image through exemplary conduct and service.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the academic accomplishments of two Nigerian medical graduates in Europe.

She commended Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University with an outstanding 4.90 out of 5.00 CGPA, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia.
She described their achievements as evidence of the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, saying such successes continue to enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.

The NiDCOM chairman urged Nigerians abroad to emulate the honourees by pursuing excellence while remaining responsible ambassadors of the country.
She stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately highlight the country’s success stories and the positive contributions of its citizens around the world.
Dabiri-Erewa also said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing wide-ranging reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable economic growth and national development.
She called on Nigerians in the diaspora to support national development by investing in the country, sharing their expertise and skills, and leveraging their international networks to advance Nigeria’s progress.
The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to recognising and engaging outstanding Nigerians abroad whose accomplishments continue to strengthen the country’s image globally.
