Super Eagles Star Osimhen Sued By Mercedes-Benz Over Alleged ₦142 Million Car Lease Debt
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is facing legal action from German automobile giant Mercedes-Benz over an alleged unpaid debt of €90,000, approximately ₦142 million, linked to a luxury vehicle lease from his time at Napoli. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Italia S.p.A. has filed a complaint with the Carabinieri police in Milan, accusing the 27-year-old forward of misappropriation.
According to reports from Italian news outlets including Il Giorno and RaiNews, the legal trouble stems from a leasing agreement signed in 2023 for a Mercedes GLE hybrid SUV. The financial arm of the automaker alleges that the player failed to keep up with the agreed payment plan, leading to an outstanding balance of approximately €90,000 . Furthermore, the company claims that Osimhen did not return the luxury vehicle after the lease contract expired.
Sources close to the matter described the issue as a standard commercial dispute that escalated after efforts to resolve it privately failed. “This is essentially a contractual issue involving non-payment and failure to return the leased asset as agreed,” a source told the Independent Newspaper Nigeria . The complaint has been formally registered as a case of misappropriation, and the authorities are expected to reach out to the striker’s legal team as part of their investigation.

The news has surprised many given Osimhen’s elite earning status. Currently playing for Galatasaray on loan, he is reported to earn around €20 million annually, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Turkish Süper Lig . He recently showcased his collection of luxury vehicles to a content creator, which includes two Lamborghinis and a Rolls-Royce, further highlighting a stark contrast with the allegations.
As of press time, representatives for Victor Osimhen have not released any official statement regarding the allegations . Meanwhile, reaction from fans on social media has largely been one of disbelief, with many supporters calling for patience and waiting for verified information. “Miscommunication probably. They should both settle things behind closed doors, instead of bringing it here,” a user on X wrote, while another added, “Osimhen failing payments for a leased car? This can’t be true”.
