The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned seven-hour power outage that will affect electricity consumers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, parts of Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as some communities in neighbouring Niger Republic.

TCN disclosed in a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah on Saturday that the outage is scheduled to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to allow for critical maintenance work on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV transmission line.

According to the company, its maintenance team in the Kano Region will use the shutdown period to repair a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the transmission corridor.

The maintenance exercise will temporarily prevent the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) from receiving power through the transmission line, resulting in a disruption of electricity supply to customers across its coverage areas.

TCN said electricity consumers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, parts of Bauchi and Yobe states, and customers in Gazaoua, Niger Republic, are expected to be affected during the maintenance window.

The company explained that the planned outage forms part of its annual maintenance programme aimed at strengthening the reliability of the national transmission network and preventing more severe disruptions.

While expressing regret over the inconvenience, TCN urged affected customers to bear with the temporary interruption as efforts are made to improve the stability of power supply in the region.
