President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on villagers in Worro community.

The President said the newly deployed troops will spearhead a counter-offensive operation codenamed Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at flushing out the terrorists, restoring security, and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.

This directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly, barbaric, and inhuman.

He expressed outrage that the assailants targeted defenceless villagers, branding the gunmen as heartless for choosing soft targets in what he described as a doomed campaign of terror.

The President noted that the victims were killed for rejecting attempts by the extremists to force an alien and violent ideology on them, choosing instead to practice a form of Islam rooted in peace and moderation.

“It is commendable that the community members, despite being Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a strange belief system that promotes violence over peace, tolerance, and dialogue,” the President said.

He called for close collaboration among federal and state security agencies to provide immediate relief to the affected community and ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.

President Tinubu also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
