Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lambasted President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State as a stark reflection of his administration’s skewed priorities, emphasizing ordinary Nigerians aren’t his focus. In a statement, Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007) Atiku Abubakar expressed deep disappointment that Tinubu attended the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, amidst relentless insecurity gripping Nigeria.

“It is a sad reflection of priorities and a glaring mockery of leadership that while families in Plateau continue to bury their loved ones, President Tinubu chose to grace a political funeral rather than stand with the people in their darkest hour,” Atiku Abubakar declared. He criticized Tinubu for prioritizing party elite gatherings over consoling victims of violence-plagued North Central states like Benue, Niger and Kwara.

Atiku Abubakar recalled Tinubu’s June Benue visit fell short of genuine empathy, skipping Yelewata – the massacre epicenter – opting instead for comfort in Makurdi. “Now again, he is in Plateau State, not to console the bereaved or reassure the broken, but to celebrate and make merry with his party elite while the people mourn,” Atiku Abubakar stated bitterly. “Between the APC National Chairman and his President, what we witnessed today is a heartless exhibition of disregard for empathy, compassion, and the dignity of human life”.

Describing Tinubu’s actions as feasting while citizens suffer, Atiku Abubakar warned Nigerians are watching intently. “The message could not be clearer: this is a President who would rather feast than feel – a leader who finds pleasure where the people find pain. The Nigerian people are watching — and they will remember,” he cautioned.
