Residents of Oyo State’s Oke-Ogun region are facing renewed security concerns following a series of attacks by suspected bandits along major road corridors, resulting in the deaths of at least two people and leaving several others injured within a 24-hour period.

The latest attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday along the Kishi-Igbeti Road, where armed assailants reportedly ambushed a moving vehicle and opened fire on its occupants. Among those killed was an electricity worker, Moshood Kayode, popularly known as “Mr. Kay.” Another passenger also lost his life, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Less than 24 hours later, another attack was reported along the Igboho-Igbeti route near the Old Oyo National Park. According to eyewitness accounts, heavily armed men wearing military-style camouflage emerged from a nearby forest and began shooting at passing vehicles around 3:25 p.m. on Saturday.

The incidents have heightened fears among commuters and residents who rely on the affected roads for daily activities. Many have called on security agencies and the Oyo State Government to intensify patrols and strengthen security measures across the area.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to release an official statement on the attacks. However, investigations are reportedly underway to track down those responsible and prevent further violence in the region.

The renewed attacks underscore growing concerns over security along major transportation routes in the Oke-Ogun axis, with residents urging swift intervention to restore confidence and ensure the safety of travellers.
