At least two soldiers have been killed after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists detonated in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Multiple security and community sources confirmed that the soldiers were killed while responding to a distress call following an attack by armed bandits in Bargaja town.

The suspected terrorists are believed to be loyal to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, according to sources familiar with the incident.

The explosion reportedly occurred as troops moved into the area to respond to the security situation, with some other personnel sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Although the military and police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, sources within security circles confirmed the attack.

A source at the Ginginya Army Barracks told our correspondent that the military community was mourning the loss of the two soldiers, adding that efforts were ongoing to account for the extent of casualties from the explosion.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the use of explosives and ambush tactics by armed groups operating in parts of the North-West region.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Sokoto State Police Command and military authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
