Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening humanitarian interventions across the country through sustained collaboration with key stakeholders.

Shettima stated this on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross, led by Doris El Doueihy, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to the Vice President, the Federal Government will intensify engagement with development partners and humanitarian actors to address gaps in response efforts nationwide.

“It is only when we continue engaging with organisations like the Red Cross that we can address some of the grey areas in our humanitarian responses across the country,” Shettima said.

He commended the ICRC for its professionalism and dedication to promoting peace and justice, particularly in conflict-affected regions, and welcomed the organisation’s proposal to establish a national humanitarian response mechanism.

Shettima said the Federal Government is ready to collaborate with the ICRC to develop and operationalise the framework, especially in addressing the needs of victims of armed conflict.

The Vice President also assured that Nigeria’s security forces would continue to operate in line with international standards and best practices.

Earlier, El Doueihy praised Nigeria for domesticating the Kampala Convention, describing the country as a model for others across Africa.

She noted that the visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between the ICRC and Nigeria, highlighting ongoing collaboration in areas such as healthcare delivery, water access, and capacity building for security personnel.

Also present at the meeting was the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Oluyemisi Adetayo Adeaga, alongside other officials.
