2027: Nwanyanwu Unveils Anti-Corruption Crusade, Vows to Audit Wealth, End Insecurity After Securing ZLP Ticket
The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Barr. Dan Nwanyanwu, has emerged as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election, unveiling a sweeping agenda that includes a nationwide audit of assets and bank deposits, a crackdown on corruption, and decisive action against insecurity.
Nwanyanwu secured the party’s ticket at the ZLP presidential convention in Abuja on Saturday, where he pledged to unite the country and restore accountability in public office.
In a speech that resonated with delegates, the veteran politician declared that corruption and insecurity would receive the full attention of his administration if elected president.
“Specifically and practically, my government will solve the problem of insecurity in Nigeria. Corruption. My government will tackle corruption,” he said.
He condemned what he described as the growing culture of political protection for public officials accused of corruption, arguing that politicians should not escape accountability by merely switching political parties.
“A situation in our country where political leaders encourage corrupt political and public office holders to join the ruling party in order to be forgiven their sins of corruption is not only unacceptable but it is also scandalous,” Nwanyanwu stated.
Promising a zero-tolerance approach to graft, the ZLP presidential candidate said his administration would strengthen anti-corruption agencies by reviewing existing laws to make them more proactive, effective and preventive in their operations.
In one of the boldest policy proposals of his speech, Nwanyanwu announced plans for a comprehensive audit of property ownership and bank deposits across Nigeria to determine the legitimacy of acquired wealth and block illicit financial flows.
“My government will undertake the audit of all property and bank deposits in Nigeria to determine the legality of those acquisitions,” he said, adding that stronger financial monitoring mechanisms would be introduced to track suspicious movements of money.
He argued that preventive measures, rather than prosecution after funds have been stolen, would form the cornerstone of his anti-corruption strategy.
According to him, years of financial leakages across government agencies, corporations and parastatals have deprived the nation of resources needed for development. He pledged to investigate public institutions dating back to the return of democratic rule in 1999 with a view to recovering stolen public funds.
The recovered resources, he said, would be redirected towards healthcare, education, infrastructure and other critical sectors.
On power, Nwanyanwu described Nigeria’s electricity sector as one of the most poorly managed in the world and promised comprehensive reforms to increase generation and improve supply.
He criticised what he called the growing trend of public officials abandoning the national grid in favour of private power solutions while millions of Nigerians remain without reliable electricity.
The ZLP candidate pledged to encourage investments in renewable energy, review the national grid system and support private and state government participation in power generation.
He also promised to revive the country’s dormant coal resources, particularly in Enugu and Kogi states, as part of efforts to boost energy production and drive industrial growth.
Turning to the economy, Nwanyanwu said his administration would focus on industrialisation by improving the ease of doing business, removing bureaucratic bottlenecks and creating a more investor-friendly environment.
He promised easier access to finance for young entrepreneurs and small businesses, arguing that Nigeria’s growing youth population should be empowered to create jobs rather than wait for government employment.
“My government will encourage young entrepreneurs not to wait for opportunities but provide the environment that will encourage them to create opportunities,” he said.
The presidential candidate further pledged to pursue constitutional reforms, strengthen federalism by devolving more powers to states and local governments, improve education and healthcare delivery, and expand infrastructure development across the country.
Nwanyanwu said details of the party’s manifesto would be released in the coming days, expressing confidence that Nigeria could overcome its challenges through transparent governance, national unity and responsible leadership.
His emergence formally signals the Zenith Labour Party’s entry into the 2027 presidential race as political realignments and preparations for the next general election gather momentum across the country.
