Kylian Mbappe has made history by winning the European Golden Shoe award for the first time in his career. The French forward scored two goals in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday, securing the top spot in the standings with 62 points.

Mbappe’s 31 goals in La Liga earned him the title of top scorer, and the weighted points system used to determine the European Golden Shoe winner gave him an edge over Sporting’s Victor Gyokeres, who scored 39 goals in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Despite Gyokeres outscoring Mbappe in the league, the points system valued Mbappe’s goals in La Liga at two points each, while Gyokeres’ goals were worth 1.5 points each.

Gyokeres, who has been linked to a summer move to Arsenal, finished the season with 53 goals in 51 matches across all competitions, but had no chance of catching Mbappe as Sporting’s league season concluded the week before. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah required a hat-trick in the final match against Crystal Palace to tie with Mbappe but managed only one goal in a 1-1 draw.

Mbappe becomes the third player from Real Madrid to win the European Golden Shoe award, following Hugo Sanchez (1989-90) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2010-11, 2013-14, and 2014-15). The top five in the standings are:

– *1. Kylian Mbappe*: 62 points

– *2. Victor Gyokeres*: 58.5 points

– *3. Mohamed Salah*: 58 points

– *4. Robert Lewandowski*: 54 points

– *5. Harry Kane*: 52 points

Mbappe’s win marks a remarkable achievement in his debut season with Real Madrid, where he scored 43 goals in all competitions. This award solidifies his position as one of the top strikers in European football.
